Christine Quinn on a Rampage Against Village Sex Predators
by Naomi Wolf
This seems to me a great model for what a city council member should actually be doing; it is very concretely useful to see a council member send out alerts about sexual predators in the neighborhood, complete with description. Actually helpful.
On Friday, August 17, at approximately 10:00AM, a woman was sexually assaulted by an unknown perpetrator inside the Body Work massage parlor, located at 85 Washington Place. The perpetrator gained access to the business by posing as a customer. He physically attacked the victim until she was unconscious and then sexually assaulted her. The assailant currently remains at large.
The 6th Precinct searched the scene for evidence, as well as investigated video in the surrounding area. Because of the type of crime, the NYPD Special Victims Division (SVD) has taken the lead and has be canvassing the neighborhood for the perpetrator and distributing information to raise community awareness.
Earlier this morning, with the help of the 6th Precinct and local community members, I distributed flyers at the West 4th Street station on 6th Avenue and Waverly Place to raise awareness and help catch this suspect. The suspect is described as a 6'0" male, between 20 and 25 years old, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark Kangol-style cap, a dark T-shirt, camouflage shorts and a backpack. In order to assist the police in their investigation, I have enclosed an image of the suspect. If you see this individual, it is important that you immediately call the NYPD SVD at 1-800-577-TIPS and that you do not approach him.
It is critical that as a community we look out for one another. Should you hear screams or sounds of a struggle, please call 911 and immediately report it.
The next 6th Precinct Community Council meeting will be on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30PM, and is being held at Our Lady of Pompeii, located at 25 Carmine Street. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Allie Nudelman in my District Office at (212) 564-7757, extension 105.
